Saint Joseph’s Oratory
Saint Joseph’s Oratory
Merlicht joined forces with architectural firm Affleck de la Riva as part of the competition to design the museum spaces and dome of Saint Joseph’s Oratory. The team was selected among the finalists. Entre ciel et terre, un parcours en lumière centres around a path of light, natural and artificial, to intuitively guide believers through a maze of complex spaces leading from the exhibition hall to the lanternon and dome. The pared-down scenography provides a counterpoint to the spectacular architecture. The museological content, which becomes increasingly sparse as visitors make their way to the very top, allows visitors to look inwards as they make their way to the highest point of the tour to take in breathtaking 360-degree views of Montréal.
